How do I use the lancing device?

This video shows you how to set the comfort dial, load, prime and use the lancing device.

Which Comfort Dial setting should I use?

This video shows you how to set the comfort dial, load, prime and use the lancing device.

Your most comfortable setting will depend on a few things:

  • Whether you're using a fingertip or alternate site.1
  • Your skin type. Softer, thinner skin requires a shallower setting than thicker skin.
  • The required blood sample. The more blood you require, the higher the setting you'll need.

Start with a low setting when using the device for the first time. Dial to a higher setting until blood volume is right. For alternate sites, try 3 for palm testing or 5-1/2 for forearm, upper arm, thigh or calf testing. (These are suggested settings, yours may differ.)

1Talk with your doctor before deciding if alternate site testing is right for you.

How do I use the clear alternate site testing cap?

Remove the blue cap from the lancing device. Attach the clear plastic cap, and twist the Comfort Dial until you reach your chosen depth setting. Prime the lancing device, and place the clear cap firmly against the selected site.1 Press the release button to lance.

Can I change the lancet while the device is attached to the meter?

Yes, the device can be used attached to or detached from the meter, including performing blood sugar checks and changing lancets.

Can I use a lancet more than once?

We strongly recommend the use of a new, sterile lancet every time you test. The tip of a new needle is sharp and precisely formed to ensure gentle lancing, but the tip can become dull or bent if used more than once. What's more, a new lancet is more hygienic. Even if you decide to reuse lancets, never use a lancet that has been used by someone else.

Can I continue to use my ACCU-CHEK lancing device if it's been dropped?

Dropping the lancing device with a lancet inserted may loosen the lancet in its holder. If that happens, the lancet will no longer be properly lodged and cannot be used to obtain blood. In rare cases, the lancet may protrude from the cap. Take great care not to touch the front of the cap.

How should I safely dispose of used lancets?

Lancets should be placed and disposed in an approved sharps container, and in accordance with local regulations.

Find out more about how to deal with sharps responsibly.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Nice, but. I like that the meter attaches to the meter, and becomes part of the meter. I do not like the angle of the button on the top however. The angle is steeper than the previous one, and as such allows your finger to slip off of it too easy. January 18, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Soft and Painless #2 Setting Perfect Soft & Painless is the best I can say!!! I have tried all kinds of needle Gauge size. All the different Lancing devices. All I ever did was Flinch from the Pain & Bruising on the fingers. I do not flinch from the Softclix Plus. Most times I do not feel the needle, but the blood sample comes up for me. Can't ask for much more than that!!! January 13, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by BEST EVER!! With testing for the last 20 years I have found the Softclix is the least painful lancing device out of about 15 different lancet devices. LOVE IT December 13, 2013
Rated 2 out of 5 by I wish for a different lancett pen I wished it would use drums like the test strips on the machine. December 12, 2013

Rated 4 out of 5 by This product makes multiple testing quicker I have used the Accu-Chek Softclix Plus for about 18 months now, and I find it is a very useful tool which makes testing much faster and less clumsy. I test pre & post meals, plus fasting, each day. The Softclix drum has the lances hidden in a small drum. There are 6 in each drum. It's great to not have to fumble with small lancets anywhere I happen to be testing - which is NOT always at home! I never have to touch a lancet or worry about anyone else doing so. Of course, pricking your finger gets old and is not pain-free with any lance, and the softclix is not exception. However, the lances are not terribly heavy or thick and are less painful than others I've used. November 7, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Love this product!! The lancets are very easy to insert and I am able to keep the depth shorter than with some other lancing devices so my fingers dont hurt as much. I love the way you can dispose of the needle without touching it. November 1, 2013

Rated 4 out of 5 by Does the job The ACCU-CHEK softclix plus does the job. I like the number settings to choose the right touch, but the "discharge" of the lancet no longer works and I have to pull out the lancet. October 3, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Painless Lancing Tool I sample from the heal of my hand and hardly feel the puncture. Far different from my mom's finger tip sampling where she dreaded the stick. August 14, 2013

Rated 5 out of 5 by makes life easier I appreciate the fact that the softclix stores with my meter. It is simple to adjust and allows me to dial the depth of the stick July 10, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Lancet Device This lancet devise is very easy and comfortable to use. I've used this device with several different Accu-Check meters I've had. I like it because it uses a drum instead of individual lancets and I'm able to set the lancet with respect to the desired depth for comfort. The drums hold 6 lancets, after use of the sixth lancet it is simple to replace the device with a new drum. July 10, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by No issues... No issues with the lancing device. Easy to use. Little to no pain. July 10, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Really like this product! The Softclix Plus combined with my meter makes an enjoyable experience out of an unpleasant one. My ONLY negative is the number of preloaded lancets. I wish it could be the same amount as the preloaded strips. Also, I would like to see this lancet device being a UNIT with my meter. The lancet that attaches to my meter is a one-time load. I LOVE THE AUTO VERSION!!! July 10, 2013
