Your product may display an error message for a number of reasons, for example if the battery is low. If you’re experiencing an error message, the below images and descriptions should help you to identify the reason why it’s showing.
Blank screen

If the meter won’t turn on or has a blank display, it will be due to one of the following reasons:
- Dead battery – you need to insert a new one.
- Damaged display – please contact Accu-Chek Customer Care.
- Defective meter – please contact Accu-Chek Customer Care.
- Extreme temperatures – you need to move the meter to a more temperate area.
Three dashes

If you see 3 dashes or hyphens on your display, it means the meter is not coded or the code key is not inserted. Turn off the meter and make sure the code key is properly inserted. If this does not fix the problem, please contact Accu-Chek Customer Care.
Battery icon

The battery icon means the battery power is low. Change the battery soon. Read this article to discover more about changing the battery.
“Set-up” on display

The words “Set-up" displayed on the screen means the meter is in the set-up mode, waiting for you to change or confirm settings. Refer to Chapter 5, "Using the Set-Up Mode", in your owner's booklet.
“Set” on display

The word "Set" displayed on the screen means the meter is in set mode, waiting for you to change or confirm settings. Refer to Chapter 4, "Meter Setup", in your owner's booklet.
“Code exp” on display

If you see "code exp" displayed on the screen, it means that the test strips expire at the end of the current month. Make sure the time and date in the meter are correct. If this does not fix the problem, please contact Accu-Chek Customer Care.
Flashing test strip

If a test strip icon is flashing on the screen, it means that the meter is ready for you to insert a test strip.
Blood drop icon

If you see a blood drop and test drop on the screen, it means that the meter is ready for a drop of blood or control solution.
HI in display

If you see the letters HI displayed on the screen, your blood glucose may be higher than the measuring range of the system. Refer to Chapter 4, "Unusual Blood Glucose Results", in your owner's booklet.
LO in display

If you see the letters LO displayed on the screen, your blood glucose may be lower than the measuring range of the system. Refer to Chapter 4, "Unusual Blood Glucose Results", in your owner's booklet.
Asterisk (top of screen) with blood glucose result

A star or asterisk on the top of the display means a marker was assigned to this test result.
Asterisk (bottom of screen) with blood glucose result

A star or asterisk at the bottom of the display means that the test result was flagged. Refer to Chapter 3, "Flagging Test Results", in your owner's booklet for more details.
Exclamation point

An exclamation point on the display means blood glucose is below the defined hypoglycemic (low blood sugar) level. Refer to Chapter 4, "Unusual Blood Glucose Results", in your owner's booklet.
“Hypo?” on display

"Hypo?" means blood glucose is below the defined hypo (low blood sugar) level. Refer to Chapter 3, "Understanding Your Test Results", in your owner's booklet.
E-1 message

“E-1” in the display means the test strip may be damaged or the code key is incorrect. Remove and reinsert the test strip. If the message reappears, turn off the meter and make sure the code key is properly inserted. If the message reappears, please contact Accu-Chek Customer Care.
E-2 message

"E-2" in the display means the code key is incorrect. Turn the meter off and make sure the code key is properly inserted. If this does not fix the problem, please contact Accu-Chek Customer Care.
E-3 message

"E-3" in the display means your blood glucose may be extremely high or a meter or a test strip error has occurred. The following instructions should help you understand what action to take:
- If your test result matches how you feel, contact your healthcare professional immediately.
- If your test result does not match how you feel, repeat the test and refer to Chapter 4, "Unusual Blood Glucose Results", in your owner's booklet.
- If the E-3 code still appears for your blood glucose test, your blood glucose result may be extremely high and above the system's reading range. Contact your healthcare professional immediately.
- If the second test result does not match how you feel, perform a control test with the control solution and a new test strip.
- If the control result is within the acceptable range, review the proper testing procedure and repeat the blood glucose test with a new test strip.
- If the control result is not within the acceptable range, see Chapter 2, "Understanding Out-of-Range Control Results."
E-4 message

"E-4" in the display means not enough blood or control solution was drawn into the test strip for measurement or was applied after the test has started. Discard the test strip and repeat the test. If the problem persists, please contact Accu-Chek Customer Care.
E-5 message

"E-5" in the display means the code key is incorrect or your test strips have expired. Make sure the time and date in the meter are correct. If the problem persists, please contact Accu-Chek Customer Care.
E-6 message

"E-6" in the display means blood or control solution was applied to the test strip before the flashing blood drop symbol appeared on the display. Discard the test strip and repeat the test. If the problem persists, please contact Accu-Chek Customer Care.
E-7 message

"E-7" in the display means an electronic error occurred or, in rare cases, a used test strip was removed and reinserted. Turn the meter off and on or take the battery out for 20 seconds and reinsert it. Perform a blood glucose or control test. If the problem persists, please contact Accu-Chek Customer Care.
E-8 message

"E-8" in the display means the temperature is above or below the proper range for the system. Refer to the test strip package insert for system operating conditions. Move to an area with the appropriate conditions, wait 5 minutes, and repeat the blood glucose or control test. Do not artificially heat or cool the meter.
E-9 message

"E-9" in the display means the battery is almost out of power. Change the battery now. If the message reappears after the battery has been replaced, reset the meter. To reset the meter, remove the battery, press any meter button, then reinsert the battery. For further information, and refer to Chapter 7, "Changing the Battery”, in your owner's booklet. E-10 message

"E-10" in the display means the time and date settings may be incorrect. Make sure the time and date are correct and adjust the settings if necessary. For further information, refer to Chapter 5, "Setting the Time and Date", in your owner's booklet.
Err with battery icon

"Err" in the display with the battery icon means the battery is almost out of power, so change the battery as soon as you can. For more information, refer to Chapter 5, "Changing the Battery", in your owner's booklet. Alternatively, this article gives detailed information about changing batteries in Accu-Chek products.
Err with time and date

"Err" in the display with the time and date means the time and date settings may be incorrect. Make sure the time and date are correct and adjust, if necessary. For more information, refer to Chapter 4, "Setting the Time and Date", in your owner's booklet. Alternatively, this article gives detailed information about setting the time and date on your device.
Err with “code” on display

"Err" in the display with the word "code" means the code key is incorrect. Make sure the code key is properly inserted. If this doesn't fix the problem, please contact Accu-Chek Customer Care.
Err with “code exp” on display

"Err" in the display with the words "code exp" means the code key is incorrect or your test strips have expired. Make sure the code key is properly inserted and check the date on your test strips. If this doesn't fix the problem, please contact Accu-Chek Customer Care.
Err with flashing test strip

"Err" in the display with a flashing test strip means your blood sugar may be extremely low, or the test strip may be damaged or not properly inserted. If you see this error message after you applied blood to the test strip, refer to Chapter 3, "Unusual Test Results", in your owner's booklet. If you see this error message before you applied blood to the test strip, remove the test strip and reinsert it, or replace it if damaged. If the message reappears, please contact Accu-Chek Customer Care.
Err with thermometer icon

"Err" in the display with a thermometer means the temperature is above or below the proper range for the meter (43°F to 111°F). Move to an area between 43°F and 111°F, wait 5 minutes and repeat the test. Do not artificially heat or cool the meter.
Err with a test strip and blood drop icons

"Err" in the display with a test strip and a blood drop means blood or control solution was applied to the test strip before the flashing blood drop appeared on the display. Discard the test strip and repeat the test.
Err with a blood drop icon

"Err" in the display with a blood drop means not enough sample was drawn into the test strip for measurement or sample was applied after the test has started. Discard the test strip and repeat the test.
Err alone in the display

"Err" with no other information in the display means an error occurred during the test. Discard the test strip and repeat the test. For more information, refer to Chapter 1, "Understanding Your New System", in your owner's booklet.
EEE in display

"EEE" in the display means an electronic error occurred. Turn the meter off and on or take the battery out for a few seconds and reinsert it. If the problem persists, please contact Accu-Chek Customer Care.
