3 Ways Roche Diabetes Care is Making Access to Care More Equitable in the U.S.

Diabetes does not affect everyone equally. Access to diabetes care, education, and resources remain out of reach for many. Why? There are many reasons, including food insecurity among families and neighborhoods, homelessness, poverty. .1 Intersectionality adds to these disparities since people of color are more likely to be diagnosed with diabetes.1,2

As part of our vision to create more moments of ease and confidence in managing diabetes for people all around the world, we at Roche Diabetes Care are working to improve access to care for all.

Here are three key efforts we’re using to make a difference in access to care, and ways you can help.

Diabetes supplies savings programs

For many, paying for diabetes supplies is a constant source of worry, and for some, it’s completely out of reach.

That’s why Roche Diabetes Care has created several savings programs including:

● The Accu-Chek Pharmacy Discount Program through the pharmacy

● The Accu-Chek Amazon Storefront for easy online ordering and discounted products

● Cost Plus Drug Company ensures quality, convenience, and savings

Whether a person has insurance or not, we have a way to make their diabetes supplies affordable.

Remote solutions via the mySugr app

For those who don’t have the job flexibility, physical ability, or access to transportation to see a health care provider in person, virtual care solutions can make all the difference.

Diabetes care is ideally suited to telehealth, given the fact that glucose readings can be shared and discussed over digital platforms.3 Remote solutions, such as the diabetes management app mySugr, give people with diabetes access to virtual care and coaching from home, at work, wherever they are.

Roche offers free, unlimited access to the mySugr PRO app, enabling users to access valuable features to manage their condition when paired with selected Accu-Chek® meters. 4 Users can track their meals, activity, and blood glucose levels, as well as create and share with their healthcare team detailed PDF reports of their aggregated diabetes data from:

● Accu-Chek Guide or Accu-Chek Guide Me blood glucose meters

● Blood sugar levels

● Carbohydrate intake

● Stress levels

● Insulin dosages

● Medications

● Estimated HbA1c

This efficient overview of information helps healthcare providers recognize patterns and individualize guidance, thus fostering productive interactions between patients and their care team.

Partnerships with outreach organizations

Roche Diabetes Care is partnering with several national and local organizations to help educate and empower people with diabetes, so they have an equal chance to live active healthy lives.

Visit our partners to see how you can help in their efforts:

● ADA Project Power

Project Power is an interactive program from American Diabetes Association to learn how to make healthy lifestyle choices and prevent obesity and type 2 diabetes in youth.

● Moms & Diabetes

As part of National Diabetes Awareness Month, Accu-Chek helped raise awareness about gestational diabetes, how common it is, and how to support moms and moms-to-be.

● JDRF

The JDRF-Beyond Type 1 Alliance hosts a virtual summit, geared specifically toward Spanish-speaking people. Participants get the latest in diabetes research, tech, tips, and emotional support.

● Beyond Type 2

We developed the ‘New to Type 2 Diabetes’ guide in English and Spanish as a starting point for people who are newly diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. This educational content includes 101 basics on blood sugar, medications, mental health, and advice from real people living with Type 2 diabetes.

● Gennesaret Free Clinics

To help the underserved communities in Indianapolis, Indiana (the city of our headquarters), Roche Diabetes Care donates diabetes management supplies and solutions to Gennesaret Free Clinics, who serve those experiencing homelessness, living in poverty, and anyone lacking established healthcare.
