Frequently Asked Questions

Meter care and batteries

Download the Owner's Booklet for your meter.

Visit the video page to watch the Setting Up and Using the Accu-Chek Aviva Connect Meter video.

Your meter comes with the batteries already installed and a preset time and date. You may need to change the time to match your time zone or, if you live in a state that observes daylight saving time, to reflect the time change.

The meter uses 2 3-volt lithium coin cell batteries (type CR 2032) found in many stores.

Clean and disinfect your meter once a week, or any time blood gets on the meter. You should also clean the meter before allowing anyone else to handle it.

Sharing information

Once you have linked the meter to the Accu-Chek Connect app on a smartphone, watch our video for step-by-step instructions for enabling auto-generated texts.

Visit the video page to watch the Setting Up and Enabling Auto-Generated Texts video.

Whenever you're signed into the Accu-Chek Connect online portal, you can click the question mark icon in the upper right side for detailed instructions and answers to frequently asked questions.

You determine what types of information your healthcare team can access over the portal. We recommend letting your providers see everything you can see, so they can draw insights from all available information. Being able to review your blood glucose test results along with insulin, carb and other information can help provide context around patterns in your blood sugar.

Test strips, coding and control tests

A control test using your meter's specific control solution ensures that you are performing tests correctly and receiving accurate results.

Testing with control solution is much like a blood sugar check, except you fill the window on the test strip with a drop of control solution instead of blood.

Run a control test:

  • Before using your meter for the first time
  • When you open a new vial of test strips
  • If you leave the cap off the vial of test strips
  • If you drop the meter
  • Whenever your result does not agree with the way you feel
  • Whenever you want to check the way you are performing your blood sugar checks
  • If you have repeated a test, and the blood sugar result is still lower or higher than expected
  • When you want to check the performance of the meter or test strips

General questions

The Accu-Chek Aviva Connect meter uses low-energy Bluetooth technology, an advance in wireless communication that is ideal for situations in which the wireless signal only has to travel a short distance. Created for devices that need to run off a tiny battery for long periods, Bluetooth technology is used in activity trackers, heart rate monitors, sound amplifiers that act as an alternative to hearing aids and more.

Absolutely. The Accu-Chek Connect system uses data encryption to keep all your information secure. What's more, you decide what information to share with others, such as your healthcare team.

Insulin calculation and special features

The Accu-Chek Bolus Advisor is a prescription insulin calculator built into the Accu-Chek Connect app. The system must be configured by a healthcare professional to include the user's insulin-to-carbohydrate ratio or recommended mealtime insulin doses. Once set up, the advisor provides personalized dosing advice based on the user's current blood glucose level and other factors.

See how easy it is to receive insulin dosing advice using the bolus advisor.
