No. The pump uses a sterile, single-use 3.15 mL plastic cartridge. This provides the flexibility to choose the brand of insulin you want to use.
The Accu-Chek Spirit insulin pump is designed for a single AA alkaline battery with a minimum capacity of 2500 mAh. Do not use lithium, carbon zinc or nickel cadmium (NiCd) batteries. You can also use rechargeable NiMH batteries with a minimum capacity of 1500 mAh. If you use rechargeable batteries, always use a battery charger recommended by the battery manufacturer. Pump battery life is about four weeks using alkaline batteries and one week using rechargeable batteries.
To help ensure safe insulin pump therapy, the battery cover should be replaced every 4th battery change, and a new adapter should be used with every 10th insulin cartridge change.
The Accu-Chek Spirit insulin pump can withstand brief accidental water contact such as rain, water splashes or accidental immersion. Before taking a bath or going into a whirlpool, shower or swimming pool, you should disconnect and remove your pump. 
No. You should never use your insulin pump near electromagnetic fields such as x-ray, computer tomography or MRI. Disconnect and remove your pump and leave it outside these areas.
The system is compatible with the Accu-Chek Connect online portal, Accu-Chek 360° diabetes management system and Accu-Chek Smart Pix device reader.
