Airport Security
In the United States, most airport screeners have been trained to recognize diabetes-related equipment and supplies. Tell the screener that you have diabetes and that you are carrying your supplies with you. Although prescription labels are not legally required,3 carrying original packaging and prescription labels may help you speed the screening process.
In the U.S., as of March 2007, you can bring on board all diabetes supplies and equipment, including:4
• properly labeled insulin
• any insulin-dispensing products
• insulin pumps and supplies
• unlimited number of unused syringes
• lancets
• blood glucose meters
• test strips
Keep in mind that security personnel in other countries may not be as well trained. So carrying a diabetes ID card, prescription labels, and a letter from your doctor may also help.
