"Today I Will...So Tomorrow I Can."
-- Michael Hunter
Insulin Dependent Diabetic
Competition Aerobatic Pilot
Michael Hunter
He wanted to fly fighter jets. No other option was ever entertained. By age 17, Michael Hunter had already committed to the Air Force and was taking flight instruction. Then he was diagnosed with diabetes. At the time, there was a worldwide ban on diabetic pilots.
Michael was told he'd never fly again.
For years, Michael struggled to control his disease. Over time, he learned that was the only way not to be controlled by it. Today, his diabetes is under remarkable control. Perhaps more remarkable, his dreams of being a pilot have been realized.
Michael Hunter is the only insulin-dependent competition and air show pilot in the world.
Michael won the first aerobatic contest he entered and flew in his first air show just 15 months after receiving his pilot's license. He is a source of inspiration for kids with type 1 diabetes, proving that diabetes doesn't have to keep you from your dreams. In addition, he is a powerful motivational speaker and advocate for pilot safety.
According to Michael, "Your only limits are those you choose to accept."
